Martha Grieve named UK top 10 Newborn & Baby Photographer 2014

INTERNATIONAL TOP 10 PHOTOGRAPHER AWARD 2014 -WITH THE UK GUILD OF PHOTOGRAPHERS

4TH – NEWBORN & BABY CATEGORY

What an absolutely fantastic evening at the annual awards evening with the UK Guild of Photographers in Crewe last weekend. I was so thrilled to be awarded 4th place in the Newborn & Baby category, Top 10 Photographer award 2014. With so many incredibly talented photographers in the running, I was delighted that my determination and consistency  paid off in the end.

A little bit of background on the award…  The competition is a culmination of a year’s worth of monthly entries (3 maximum images per month) with scores tallied up to determine who wins one of the top ten photography awards in each category . Over 10,000 images were entered by photographers from all over the UK and Europe.

I have been fortunate to meet so many amazing and gifted photographers along the way, many of whom have become lovely friends. It was so special to have shared the evening with them and to have celebrated our achievements together. A big thank you to Nina Mace, Sam Hayward, Mark Lynham, Rebecca Spencer and Sally Masson, to name a few.

I’d especially like to acknowledge Stephanie Belton, who has been my mentor over the last 6 months. I owe so much to Stephanie for her guidance and encouragement, which has really helped me shape my skills and form an effective business model.

Steve Thirsk, the director of the Guild of Photographers  says  he is “both proud and delighted that Martha Grieve has achieved this recognition after 12 months of submitting the highest quality of images. The Guild has very demanding standards when judging photographic competitions. The judging is undertaken by a panel of internationally recognised experts from a variety of photographic backgrounds, so Martha Grieve should be delighted with her extraordinary achievement!”

It has been an absolute pleasure working in and around London, capturing these beautiful images and meeting such amazing families. I love the fact I can offer a service that caters for new parents in the comfort of their own homes. I work solely on location to create these naturally-styled posed images, thus offering the bare minimum of stress and hassle for my clients.

I am a proud member of Banpas, an association whose members are amongst the UK’s leading baby and newborn photographers. They promote safe working practises and are dedicated to ensuring that safety and comfort takes priory whilst creating these pieces of art (a very important attribute to consider when choosing your newborn baby photographer).

My most sincere gratitude also extends to all of my clients and casting call models who have allowed these images to be considered for competition.

Silver Awards

A quick update, last month I received two Silver Awards and a bronze for the images I submitted in the Guild of Photographers monthly photo competition. I have gained steady bronzes over the last few months but am thrilled to have reached the Silver level again. Two in one month, bonus!

As some of you may know, I took the challenge last year and managed to gain a ‘Photographers Bar’. Rather pleased.

Every month entries are assessed and given points by a full panel of highly respected judges. At the end of the year, the points are added up to give you your final score.

This can take up hours of my time, choosing and editing images ready to be judged, not an easy task! This however continues to push me as a Photographer to continue to learn my craft. There are thousands of entries per month and only about 15-40 Silver and Golds are awarded on average monthly. So a great achievement to be amongst one one them.

Martha Grieve gains a ‘Bar” at the Guild of Photographers annual awards evening

Martha Grieve - Guild of Photographers Award

I just had the most wonderful weekend away in Crewe Hall, Cheshire, where I spent an evening at the ‘Guild of Photographers’ annual awards dinner.

Mingling and finally meeting face to face with fellow photographers in the Guild that I have become acquainted with over the forum. I am so excited to share that I won a “PHOTOGRAPHERS BAR”!  Only 26 people won this award across the UK and internationally and I am one proud photographer to be named one of them. Just to let you know what this award entails…

“The Photographers Bar is awarded to very few photographers who have successfully had images assessed by the Guild month after month over the course of the year and have attained a score equating to an award for each image entered, thereby evidencing an exceptional level of professional skill and consistency”

This was a daunting personal commitment that I made back in January 2013.  It was tough but I stuck to it, spending hours fine-tuning the images to be ready for judging, hoping every month my three images entered would be award winners…  As any Guild member will tell you, we all sit glued to our emails on the 21st of every month, anxiously awaiting RESULTS DAY!

The results were good!  My hard work paid off and I was so proud to walk up and accept my award on the evening.

A special thank you to all my clients who supported me and were more than happy to have an image of themselves or child entered into competition. Looking forward to 2014 with new challenges ahead!

Bar Awards | London Newborn Photographer

As you may know I am a member of the Guild of Photographers –  a highly regarded national photographic body whose members are dedicated to enhancing their skills in the art, craft and profession of photography.

Every month they have competitions and the judging is undertaken by a panel of internationally recognised experts from a variety of photographic backgrounds. I love entering and can be so rewarding. It also helps me grow and to push myself to achieve a variety of well crafted images.  So far this year I have entered 15 images, which were  all awarded! Yay! 1 Silver and 14 Bronze Bars. Very Very excited about my Silver! Here are a few. Enjoy!
